About Haji Ghulam Hussain Memorial Eye Hospital
The Haji Ghulam Hussain Memorial Eye Hospital is an under-development charitable healthcare project at Dera Ch. Muhammad Hanif, near Life City Housing Society, Bhalwal, District Sargodha, Pakistan. It is dedicated to providing free eye examinations, surgeries, medicines and follow-up care to the underprivileged. Equipped with modern diagnostic tools and led by experienced doctors, the hospital aims to eliminate preventable blindness for those who cannot afford treatment. The project is undertaken in collaboration with the Dera Hazrat Mian Sahib Trust, which has already established more than 30 charitable welfare units across Punjab and Azad Kashmir.

The man behind the name
Haji Ghulam Hussain
Late Haji Ghulam Hussain, a resident of Bhalwal, District Sargodha, was a generous and dignified man who devoted his life to serving his community — especially the poor and needy — with his modest resources. As Chairman of the local Zakat & Ushr Committee, he supported the underprivileged, widows and orphans for many years.
He became a deeply respected figure in his community and, since his passing in 1993, is remembered as a father figure to many. This hospital is built in his memory and carries his name.
Carrying the legacy forward
Ch. Muhammad Hanif
Ch. Muhammad Hanif, a retired Deputy Director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan and a native of Bhalwal now settled in Toronto, Canada, is determined to continue the legacy of his late father, Haji Ghulam Hussain. His mission is to provide social-welfare services — clean drinking water and free healthcare — to the community, and especially to its most underprivileged members.
The idea of establishing a free eye-care hospital in Bhalwal was shared with him by a dignified friend, Ch. Muhammad Azam Gondal of Mississauga, Ontario, together with his sons Waqas, Nawaf and Nazaar Azam Gondal. They introduced Ch. Hanif to the legacy of the late Hazrat Dr. Muhammad Farukh Hafeez of Dera Hazrat Mian Sahib, Kadhar.
Our roots
A legacy of free eye care
Hazrat Dr. Muhammad Farukh Hafeez gave up his prestigious post as Medical Superintendent at Mayo Hospital, Lahore, to establish a large-scale free eye-care network for the poor. As both an eye surgeon and a spiritual healer, he provided free eye-surgery treatment to over 450,000 patients. Following in his footsteps, his son, Sahibzada Hafiz Muhammad Ahsan Hafeez, established the Dera Hazrat Mian Sahib Trust, a non-profit public charitable trust.
This trust has already established more than 30 welfare units of charitable services for the poor — especially free eye hospitals — at Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, Mirpur and far-flung areas of Azad Kashmir. The Haji Ghulam Hussain Memorial Eye Hospital is a collaborative effort under its patronage, which provides legal cover as well as equipment and expertise.
A gift in perpetuity
The land — a Waqf for the community
To establish the hospital, Ch. Muhammad Hanif donated 3 Kanals of land — worth approximately PKR 16 million (about CAD $124,000) — at Dera Ch. Muhammad Hanif. The land has been formally registered and allocated as Waqf (an irrevocable charitable endowment) for the project, so it will serve the community in perpetuity.
